Good day!

I am trying to open our Process Log from Manager but keep getting a timeout error. When I tried to manually open the log file I found out that it is 300mb file which explains why Im unable to open it [frown]

I've been trying to look for option on how to create a new Process Log file but to no avail.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for your help

Using INVOICES Manager 5-5 SP7

Hey, I am on my way home at the moment. From memory you can increase the timeout in the eiglobal file. That might get you over the hurdle. Then there is a setting in your master data maintenance routine which specifies how long to keep log for. Decrease this then run your maintenance routine manually. I will check tomorrow when I back in office. Cheers Cheryl

Hi,
I logged in this morning to confirm above is correct.

The setting for how long to keep the history for is in Manager > Administration > Maintenance (note below is a 5-7 system)

My preference would be to make a backup copy of the old file then reduce the length of the process log history.

The reason for this is that if you create a new file, accounts payable will not be able to review recent history unless you switch back to the old file.
Our accounts payable regularly review the process log file when they are trouble-shooting (e.g., I scanned an invoice, where did it go!).

I create new log files simply by renaming the old log file.  The system will automatically create a new log file.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks a lot! I increased the timeout and was able to view the log.

Checking the retention period, its currently set to 10 days. I'll be renaming the old file as you have suggested.

Again, many thanks for your help! good day to you [smile]

Hi Ganiel
Hmmm, only 10 days of history and the process log is timing out.

Ours is set to 99 days and the timeout parameter in eiglobal is 30 (I presume meaning 30 seconds).  We would process about 30,000 invoices in that 99 days.  (Note, the default timeout is 60). I timed the process log today and it took 15 seconds to open with a history retention of 99 days.

The longer time out, coupled with the longer history retention, makes it easier for AP clerks to query the process log.  Else they would need to go to the XML log file on the Readsoft server which contains the deleted entries.  The AP clerks are not tech savvy, nor do they have a login to the Readsoft server, so having a longer timeout and retention works best for us.

Either:

1) Your company is processing an enormous amount of invoices,

2) Or your maintenance routine is not automatically running.  Check your dbmaintenance.log and dbmaintenance_detailed.log files for last run date.

3) The timeout parameter was too short

Note that I believe I was mistaken about the creation of the process log file.  In hindsight, I think it is stored on the database server.  The file that you were trying to open, is possibly the file that holds the deleted process log entries after the maintenance routine has been run.

Cheers
